Auto-log your spending on iPhone & Android: Apple Pay, TNG screenshots, bank SMS and email

Every capture method below sends your spend to IZ Finance, which picks a category and confirms it where Izzy reaches you — a notification on your phone (with Undo and Fix), or a Telegram card if you prefer chatting. You only touch it when something's off. Set up the ones that match how you pay — most people need two.

Which ones do I need?

Before you start (iPhone, 2 minutes, once)

  1. Open IZ Finance → Settings → Capture & alerts → Get my code. It's shown only once, so set up all your shortcuts in one go: each Set upbutton copies the code, and the shortcut asks you to paste it while it installs. Anyone with the code can add spends to your account — don't share it. Lost it? Make a new code and re-install your shortcuts.
  2. Every capture shows a confirmation where Izzy reaches you — turn on alerts for this iPhone under Where Izzy reaches you (and/or link Telegram).

iPhone — A. Apple Pay tap (hands-free)

Fires whenever you tap your phone at a shop's card reader. In-store only (not online Apple Pay).

  1. In Capture & alerts, open Log Apple Pay taps automatically → Set up, add the IZ Apple Pay shortcut and paste your code when asked.
  2. Open the Shortcuts app → Automation → + → Wallet (called Transaction on older iOS). Pick your Ringgit card(s) — leave out foreign-currency cards like Suica — and choose Run Immediately → Next → New Blank Automation.
  3. Add a Text action: tap in it → Shortcut Input → tap it again → Amount, type a space, then Shortcut Input → Merchant. It reads like RM12.50 ZUS COFFEE.
  4. Add Run Shortcut → IZ Apple Pay, and set its input to Text. Apple doesn't let automations be shared, so this step is yours.
  5. Pay for something small. A notification shows what was logged within a few seconds. Test it without paying first if you like.

iPhone — B. Snap-to-log with Back Tap

For everything that isn't an Apple Pay tap — Touch 'n Go, DuitNow QR, GrabPay, a bank-app transfer. On the payment success screen you double-tap the back of your phone; IZ reads the amount and merchant from the screen and logs it.

Why not double-click the side button?iOS reserves that for Apple Pay / Wallet, and Shortcuts can't use it. Back Tap works on every iPhone from the 8 onward.

  1. In Capture & alerts, open Log a payment screenshot with a double-tap → Set up, and paste your code when asked. (No button there yet? Build it yourself — about 5 minutes.)
  2. Open Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap and pick IZ Snap (it's under Shortcuts at the bottom of the list).
  3. Test it: open any payment receipt screen (TNG transaction history works), double-tap the back of the phone firmly. The first time, iOS asks to allow the shortcut to take a screenshot and to talk to the IZ Finance website — tap Always Allow for both.
  4. A notification shows what was logged, e.g. Logged RM12.50 → Needs · Meals.

iPhone — C. Snap-to-log with the Action Button

iPhone 15 Pro or newer: Settings → Action Button → swipe to Shortcut → choose IZ Snap. Press and hold the button on any success screen. You can use this and Back Tap at the same time.

iPhone — D. Receipts already in your Photos

Open the photo or screenshot → Share → scroll the action list to IZ Snap Photo (see the end of Build IZ Snap). Works for paper receipts you photographed earlier too. Sharing the same image twice is ignored, so you can't double-log by accident.

Build the IZ Snap shortcut yourself

Only needed if there's no Set upbutton in Capture & alerts. IZ Snap is a normal shortcut, not an automation: open the Shortcuts app → Shortcuts tab (bottom-left) → + (top-right). Tap the title and rename it IZ Snap, then add these five actions — type each name into the Search Actions bar:

  1. Take Screenshot.
  2. Get Contents of URL — tap the blue URL and paste https://iz-finance.app/api/budget/log?ingest=1&channel=screenshot. Tap the ▸ arrow: Method POST; under Headers add X-Ingest-Token = your code, and Content-Type = image/png; Request Body File → tap File and pick Screenshot.
  3. Get Dictionary Value — Value for key data in Contents of URL.
  4. Get Dictionary Value — Value for key message in Dictionary Value.
  5. Show Notification — Dictionary Value. Tap Done.

Only now will IZ Snap appear at the bottom of the Back Tap list (under Shortcuts).

For photos in your gallery, make a second copy: long-press IZ Snap → Duplicate → rename it IZ Snap Photo. Delete Take Screenshot and add Convert Image (to JPEG) at the top, set to Shortcut Input; in Get Contents of URL point File at Converted Image (iPhone photos are HEIC, which the reader can't open). Then tap ⓘ → turn on Show in Share Sheet → receive Images only.

iPhone — E. Bank SMS (online card, FPX, reloads)

If your bank texts you for each card transaction, those texts can log the spend — handy for online purchases and e-wallet top-ups that Apple Pay doesn't see.

  1. In Capture & alerts, open Log your bank's SMS alerts → Set up, add IZ SMS and paste your code.
  2. Shortcuts → Automation → + → Message → Message Contains RM0 (every Malaysian bank SMS starts with it, so one automation covers all your banks) → Run Immediately → Next → choose IZ SMS. One automation only — two for the same trigger log every SMS twice.
  3. Building it by hand instead: action Get Contents of URL → https://iz-finance.app/api/budget/log?ingest=1, Method POST, header X-Ingest-Token = your code, Request Body JSON: raw = Shortcut Input, channel = sms. No amount — IZ reads it from the text.

iPhone — F. "Just left the shop?" reminder (optional)

For cash spends: Shortcuts → Automation → + → Leave → pick your usual supermarket or pasar → action Show Notification"Log it?" → tap it and type the spend to the IZ bot, e.g. groceries 52.30.

Android — G. TNG, MAE & bank SMS (hands-free)

The IZ Finance Android app reads payment notifications itself — no code, no extra apps.

  1. Open the app → Settings → Capture & alerts → Log payments automatically → Agree & allow, switch on IZ Finance under Notification access, come back and tap Turn on.
  2. Tick the apps to capture (TNG and MAE are on by default). Bank SMS that start with RM0 are logged too, from any bank.
  3. Each capture shows a notification with Undo and Fix. Not a payment mutes that app or sender. Chats, OTPs and promos never leave your phone.

Android — H. Receipts and screenshots

Tap + → Scan receipt in the app (camera or gallery), or share the screenshot to the IZ Finance bot on Telegram. Splitting with friends? + → Split a bill reads every item.

Any phone — I. Email receipts

Best for online card spends, FPX, Grab, Shopee and subscriptions. Nothing to install.

  1. In Capture & alerts, open Forward email receipts and copy your private capture address (it looks like capture+…@in.iz-finance.app). Treat it like a password.
  2. In Gmail on a computer: Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP → Add a forwarding address → paste it. Gmail sends a confirmation code to that address — IZ passes it to you as a notification (or on Telegram); type it in Gmail. Leave Disable forwarding selected: only the filter in the next step forwards.
  3. Filters → Create a new filter → in Has the words, paste:
subject:(receipt OR e-receipt OR invoice OR resit OR order OR payment OR purchase OR transaction OR bayaran)
→ Create filter → tick Forward it toyour capture address. No list of shops to keep up — one filter covers Grab, Shopee, Foodpanda, McDonald's, subscriptions and bank FPX e-mails.

The filter is broad on purpose; IZ decides what counts. Only completed payments are logged, at the total actually paid(after vouchers). Promos, "shipped" and "rate your order" e-mails and "complete your payment" reminders are skipped quietly, one order is logged once however many e-mails it sends, and a refund gets a note instead of an entry. If TNG, your card SMS or Apple Pay already logged the same amount in the last 2 hours, the e-mail is skipped — no double counting. Receipts in other currencies aren't logged yet; you'll get a note to type the RM amount.

Receipts from abroad

A Singapore, Thai or US receipt is read in its own currency and converted to Ringgit at today's rate, e.g. Logged RM95.24 (USD 20.00)— the original amount stays in the note. Your card's actual rate may differ slightly; fix it with ✏️ Amountwhen the bank statement lands. Currencies without a published rate (e.g. Vietnamese dong) aren't guessed — you'll be asked to type the RM amount.

What if the same spend is captured twice?

Common: Apple Pay logs a tap, then you also screenshot the receipt; or the bank SMS and the email both arrive. If a new capture has the same amount as one logged in the last 20 minutes, IZ still saves it but the confirmation says "⚠️ Looks like a repeat of Meals at 12:03" — tap ✖ Cancel to remove it. The exact same screenshot sent twice is ignored automatically.

TNG reloads:topping up TNG isn't spending yet — the spending is when you pay with it. If IZ already logs your TNG payments (Android app), reloads are skipped so nothing counts twice. If it doesn't (e.g. iPhone), the reload is logged as an "e-wallet reload" so the money still shows up. Moved TNG to another phone? Set Settings → Capture → TNG reloads to Count as spending or Don't count.

Test a shortcut without paying

Pressing ▶ on IZ Apple Pay or IZ SMS by itself does nothing — they wait for a payment. To try one now, make a throwaway shortcut:

  1. Shortcuts → + → add Text: RM1.00 TEST CAFE (for IZ SMS: RM0 Maybank: RM1.00 was debited from your acct at TEST SHOP).
  2. Add Run Shortcut → the IZ shortcut you installed → tap the arrow → Input: Text.
  3. Tap ▶. A notification says Logged RM1.00 → … and the entry is on Home. Delete it (Activity → tap → Delete) and the test shortcut.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing happens when I pay: open the automation and check it runs the IZ shortcut you installed from the link(the one you pasted your code into), that Apple Pay's automation has the Text step with Amount and Merchant and passes it as the input, and that iPhone Settings → Notifications → Shortcuts is allowed.
  • Everything is logged twice: two automations for the same trigger (e.g. an old one that calls the website directly). Keep one.
  • Back Tap does nothing: tap firmly near the camera; thick cases can block it. Check Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap still shows IZ Snap.
  • "Not logged: couldn't read the amount":the screenshot didn't show a clear total, or it was money received (IZ never logs incoming money as a spend). Type it to the bot instead.
  • "Invalid ingest token": the code was replaced or revoked. Make a new code and re-install each shortcut, pasting it when asked.
  • Logged, but no confirmation: turn on alerts under Where Izzy reaches you, or link Telegram. The spend is still on Home.
  • Wrong category: tap 📂 Category on the card. Use Help for the full category list.
  • Free plan scan limit: screenshots and receipt photos count as scans; the weekly allowance resets every 7 days.

Privacy

Screenshots are sent over HTTPS and read once by our AI provider's vision model to pull out the amount, merchant and category. IZ Finance saves only those fields — the image itself is never stored. Bank SMS and email text is handled the same way. Make a new code in Capture & alerts at any time and every connected shortcut stops working immediately.

Stop typing every teh tarik.

IZ Finance logs spends from your phone automatically and lets you fix the odd one in a tap. Free during beta.
